God’s Grace and Provision

From my journal

Geriatric Nurse Practitioner – December 2008

“My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.” Luke 1:47

So much has happened since last April. After my concussion and the flu, I finally resumed parttime work at the nursing home at the end of April and increased to fulltime in May. By God’s grace, I only called in sick one day since then. My monthly billable visits increased from 60% to 105%, so my boss gave me a 2.5% raise even though the economy is horrible. This is purely God’s grace and provision considering I thought they might terminate me last spring because of the three-month absence for my concussion and the three-week absence in January for my foot surgery.

The nurses asked me to play carols on my violin at the lovely Christmas party for the patients. The nursing home pulls out all the stops and serves each unit at lunchtime in the auditorium with china, silverware, and white tablecloths. The menu was delicious with roast beef and cheesecake for dessert. After lunch, the staff and patients joyfully sang along. I thank the Lord we have the freedom to celebrate His birth.

I enjoyed playing Christmas carols on my violin for my patients at the nursing home where I worked.

I thank God for His mercies which are new every morning and all the wonderful lessons He has taught me this past year through foot surgery, flu, concussion, and a difficult situation with a coworker. Onward and forward.

“He who testifies of these things says, Surely, I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”  Revelation 22:20-21 (KJV)

The Lord hides the specifics of our personal future from us so that we might trust Him more with the day to day exercises He brings our way. And yet He tells us in the Bible about His plan through the ages and speaks with equal authority about the past and things to come. The Old Testament prophets predicted the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ centuries before He came. All believers in Christ have the blessed hope of the Rapture to look forward to when we will be caught up in the air to be with Jesus forever and ever. How I long for that day. This world is not my home, I’m just passing through. I want to be a good ambassador for Him until He calls me home. The best is yet to come!

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Titus 2:13-14 (KJV)
